World Duathlon Championships 2021

Great to have three athletes attend the World Duathlon Championships in Aviles Spain in November. It was a first experience for Alex Crump and Dave Brown with Sam Hopton aiming for a medal after previous top 10 positions. It’s not very often all athletes race to the full potential on this occasion we can safely say they did.

Sam executed a perfect run bike and transitions to come out with the leaders into the final run narrowly missing out on a medal to three excellent runners and finish 4th in the 30-34 age-group.

In the same age-group Alex produced an excellent first run to remain in contact with athletes ranked well above him. He made good progress on the bike and produced final run to be proud off to finish 14th.

After two years of getting on top of old football injuries and asthma related breathing issues Dave Brown nailed his first world champs. Digging deep in the first run he found himself in good company for the bike section. Team mate Chris Shakya caught Dave's group from behind and immediately rode through with Dave unable to respond. He held a solid tempo and produced an good second run to finish 19th and one place behind Chris who was also delighted with his own performance which was one of his best so far.

Already looking forward to 2022 major championships!
